Field Ops backhoeField Operations is primarily responsible for maintenance of the sanitary and Surface Water Management (SWM) conveyance systems. Specifically, the Division provides administration, system repair, system maintenance and SWM Surface Facility Maintenance.

The Street Sweeping Program is responsible for sweeping all curbed public streets. The program is designed to control sediment and nutrients that accumulate on the streets and would otherwise enter the stormwater system. The street sweeping recorded message hotline number is (503) 547-8116.

The Retention/Detention Basin Maintenance Program is responsible for the maintenance of water quality and water quantity facilities. Water quantity facilities typically are large detention ponds with a controlled outlet.

Routine maintenance includes mowing, weeding, spraying, inlet and outlet cleaning and repair, debris and litter removal, replanting and care of vegetation, and maintenance of the levees around the facilities. This program also inspects these facilities during rain events and keeps them operational.

The Ditch Cleaning Program is responsible for providing contract services to Washington County for the cleaning of roadside ditches and roadside pipe systems. This program is funded through a contract with Washington County.

The Sanitary System Maintenance Program maintains the sanitary mainlines in the conveyance system and responds to customer complaints and emergencies. Maintenance of the District system includes line cleaning, root control, system surveying, and rodent control. This group also inspects the trunk lines to replace manhole covers and seals manhole lids or installs self-closing lids.

The TV Inspection Program provides routine television inspection of sanitary and storm lines. It also includes the television inspection of contractor-constructed sanitary and storm lines prior to their acceptance by the District (warranty inspection), and the location of service laterals. By intergovernmental agreement, the District also provides TV inspection to the Cities of Cornelius and Sherwood. This program also supports rehabilitation projects for the reduction of infiltration and inflow (I&I).

The SWM System Repair program is responsible for the repairs to the SWM conveyance system. Activities include storm line, catch basin and manhole repair and replacement, reshaping of and silt removal from creeks and streams, and major debris removal from retention/detention ponds. Minor improvements to the SWM system are also constructed under this program.
