The following information is provided to assist you in understanding our recruitment process. Please read it carefully before applying for open positions. Application materials will only be accepted for positions and internships that are currently open.

Job announcement

For each position advertised, a job announcement is provided. The job announcement lists the nature of work, example of duties, desired knowledge, skills and abilities, required training and experience for the position. It is important that you review the job announcement carefully to see that you meet the minimum qualifications before applying for the job. For each internship, the job announcement lists the job duties to be performed and the knowledge and skills you will learn from the internship.

How to apply for positions and internships

For positions, correctly and completely filling out the required application materials and returning them by the indicated closing date and time will ensure consideration of your application. Since each opening at Clean Water Services is unique, different application materials are required for each opening. If you are applying for more than one job opening, please submit the required application materials for each position.

Selection process

Applications are first screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications may be invited to an interview. When Human Resources reviews applications for a vacancy, we look for those candidates whose work backgrounds most closely fit the needs of the position and the District. These candidates’ applications are then forwarded to the hiring manager for further review and interview selection. Candidates selected for an interview will typically be contacted within two to three weeks after the closing date listed on the job announcement.

Conditional offer of employment

Candidates selected to fill an open position will receive a conditional offer of employment pending successful completion of a drug, alcohol and criminal background screening. Some positions may also require an acceptable driving record and/or the successful completion of a medical evaluation.

For internships, if selected as a finalist, references may be required. Pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and transcripts will be required.

Immigration law

In accordance with the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986, employment of any individual will be contingent upon presentation of acceptable documents verifying identity and authorization for employment in the United States.

Union representation

Some positions within the District are represented by Teamsters Local #223. Employees hired into these positions must join and remain a member of the Teamsters Local 223 Union or pay the Union a fair share.

Probationary period

Employees serve an initial probationary period of between twelve and eighteen months. During the probationary period, an employee may be terminated at any time without right of appeal.
